The Harmonic Canon Remixes

Out on Thu 30 Jun | DL + LP

Three years after the release of The Harmonic Canon, Nonclassical is happy to announce a new series remixing Dominic Murcott’s work for double bell and metallic percussion. Originally performed by arx duo, the two-part piece won the 2018 BASCA British Composer Award for Solo or Duo.

Sculpted by Marcus Vergette, the two bells are specially designed a semitone apart using finite element analysis, creating unique possibilities for harmonics and resonance.

Loraine James’ effervescent remix ‘Zig Zags’ samples high pitch percussions whilst Natalie Sharp (fka Lone Taxidermist) highlights the resonance of the bells with her track “Harmonic Canonised”. Sean O’Hagan’s remix ‘Kennex Klymb’ combines intricate instrumental arrangements over the bells’ dissonant timbre and suspended chords descend into minimalist grooves in John McEntire’s reworking of Murcott’s work.

The release will be launched with a live event on Saturday 2 July at Stephen Lawrence Gallery in Greenwich with a performance of The Harmonic Canon and an ambient DJ set from DJ NikNak.
