NONCLASSICAL Environmental POLICY

Nonclassical is a charity based in shared offices in Bethnal Green, east London. Though we are a small organisation, we are serious about sustainability and monitoring our relationship to our environment. We acknowledge our responsibility to conduct our work in an environmentally sustainable way.

Nonclassical recognises the UK government’s ratification of the Paris Agreement, which limits global warming to no more than 2%.

We have identified the following key environmental impacts of our work:

Office

The Nonclassical team work in shared offices in Oxford House, Bethnal Green, London on a part-time basis. The primary environmental impacts are:

  • Energy consumption

  • Water consumption

  • Waste generation

  • Resource usage (server hosting, office equipment)

Travel

The majority of our travel is within London, though staff and artists often travel further afield for work or events, both within the UK and internationally.

The primary environmental impact is:

  • Fossil fuel energy consumption

Programme

Nonclassical presents a regular live events programme, taking place mainly in London but often further afield, both within the UK and internationally.

The primary environmental impacts are:

  • Energy consumption

  • Food and water consumption

  • Waste generation

Manufacturing

Nonclassical’s record label regularly produces CDs, tapes and vinyl.

The primary environmental impacts are:

  • Resource consumption

  • Toxicity of materials used 

  • Fossil fuel energy consumption

Nonclassical is committed to action on the following impact areas:

  • energy

  • delivery management 

Nonclassical will put this commitment in action in the following ways:

  • complying fully with all relevant statutory regulations and exceeding environmental legislation requirements wherever possible.

  • maintaining and upholding the environmental policy and encouraging staff to act in an environmentally positive way.

  • adhering to a travel plan that promotes sustainability for staff and visitors, including using sustainable or low-impact methods of travel and avoiding air travel whenever possible

  • considering and integrating environmental considerations in the procurement process for supplies and services, particularly with regard to the manufacture of records, including consideration of total life cycle costs.

  • encouraging positive environmental behaviour to all of our staff, artists, suppliers, customers and audiences
