Over at nonclassical HQ, we’ve been revisiting Gabriel Prokofiev’s Cello Multritracks ahead of its performance with cellist Colin Alexander and Gabriel himself on 4 October, as part of the Herne Hill Festival. Written for nine layered cello parts, the piece sees a single cellist performing alongside a virtual ensemble of eight multitracked cellos.
The work – highlighting Gabriel’s continued interest in taking influences from both electronic dance music and older, more traditional classical forms – was released by us back in 2011, where it received 4 stars from the Independent and The Times described it as ‘A powerful introduction to the music of Gabriel Prokofiev.’
