The award-winning Mercury Quartet comprises four rising stars of the UK and Europe's contemporary music scene.

Notably they have held position's as professors and performers at Dartington International Summer School, Bucharest Conservatoire and Southampton University.

They also won Nonclassical’s first ever ‘Battle of the Bands’ to find young talent in contemporary music, this led to the recording and release (worldwide distribution by Naxos) of their debut CD ‘Mercury Acoustic’.

With an approach heavily influenced as much by bigwigs of improvisation Evan Parker, Cecil Taylor, Peter Brotzmann and Miles Davis, as by the monsters of 20th-century modernism like Ligeti, Bartok, Schoenberg and Messiaen. They have a unique approach to composition; writing via spontaneously improvising, and their website contains a more detailed account of this by Nonclassical founder Gabriel Prokofiev.
