After the success of the first Nonclassical of 2010, which saw Jennifer Torrence and The Mercury Quartet performing stunning new contemporary compositions hot of the score, Nonclassical are pleased to continue their residency at The Horse and Groom. This month promises to be just as innovative with a mixture of traditional and contemporary performances from a very talented and a little more ‘seasoned’ set of performers, who are in all their 30s (not the usual twenty-something upstarts who normally play @ Nonclassical!). They are virtuosic pianist GéNIA, violinist Ben Wragg and the Vladimir & Estragon Piano Duo.

GéNIA

In a rare upright piano performance, GéNIA will be previewing pieces from her upcoming release on Nonclassical ‘G. Prokofiev:Piano Book No. 1’. A graduate of Guildhall and Trinity Colleges, GéNIA has commissioned over 20 new works, particularly developing the repertoire for piano and electronics. “Already she is an impulsive, forthright performer who communicates readily… GéNIA is one to watch…” The Observer.

‘Piano Book No. 1’(selection) – G Prokofiev

‘Suite For Piano & Electronic’s – John Richards – Max De Wardener ‘Remix of the Remix’

Vladimir & Estragon Piano Duo

Since their first uproarious performance in 2006, the Vladimir & Estragon Piano Duo (Andriana Minou & Nikos Stavlas) have been stylishly spreading the spirit of musical terrorism around Europe. Their performance will include:

‘Five Pieces’ – Ligeti

‘Sketches’ – Gavrilin.

Ben Wragg

Described by the legendary Ruggiero Ricci as “technically and musically out of the ordinary…one of our most talented young violinists”, Ben Wragg is known for his exciting, expressive performance style. In a virtuosic and intense performance of solo violin music, Ben Wragg will provide Nonclassical fans with a some more old-school repertoire as well as comtemporary works, with a program including:

‘A Paganini’ – Schnittke,

‘Chaconne’ – Bach

‘Ballade’ – Ysaye.

Live performances from 9pm and DJ sets from resident DJ’s Gabriel Prokofiev and Richard Lannoy throughout  the night mixing contemporary classical, genre-busting remixes from the Nonclassical label and beyond.
