Following the success of our monthly club night at The Macbeth, Nonclassical’s first event of 2010 will be held at The Horse and Groom, or ‘The Disco Pub’ as the venue is known to locals. Situated on Curtain Road in Shoreditch, the venue boasts traditional furniture mixed with a quirky undertone which suits the diverse musical ethos of Nonclassical clubnights.

With live performances from the Mercury Quartet and Jennifer Torrence and innovative DJ sets mixing contemporary classical and the genre-bending remixes from resident DJs Gabriel Prokofiev, Richard Lannoy & special guests.

The Artists:

Mercury Quartet

The Mercury Quartet was formed at The Royal College of Music to realise a shared passion for Messiaen’s Quartet for The End Time. In 2008, the Quartet won Nonclassical’s Battle of the Bands to find the ‘next big thing’ in contemporary classical music. The Quartet has a wideranging repertoire, including interpretations of 20th century masterworks, contemporary classical or electronic music and any interdisciplinary art-form, but what really makes them stand-out is their group improvisations and Rock’n'Roll approach.

Jennifer Torrence

Jennifer Torrence is an outstanding percussionist and scholar at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. She has toured with the Grammy Award winning ensemble Eighth Blackbird and continually commissions and premieres works for percussion.
